Bay Fest

Bay Fest is now an annual must-see outdoor live event. A summer evening, family-friendly event where holiday makers and local Bay Viewers can let their hair down as the sun sets over Widemouth Bay.

Basking in a UK-wide heatwave (for once!), Bay Fest 2018 didn’t disappoint – it rocked. And for all the right reasons – Bay Fest isn’t just about getting together to enjoy great live music, it’s about raising awareness and supporting local causes.

Here’s some of the highlights of Bay Fest 2018. And if you missed it, put Saturday 29th June in your diary as we will be shaking The Bay View Inn down to its sandy foundations next year too.

Bay Fest 2018: Starring Joey The Lips

No one rocks a place like Joey The Lips. Their relentless energy and top quality vocals, pulsing rhythm section, not to mention those killer horns, have swept audiences off their dancing feet for over 25 years across the UK and Europe.

They’ve appeared on chat shows. Headlined music festivals. Supported acts like Will Young, Bob Geldof & The Boomtown Rats.

Now an annual must-see seaside spectacular, they also make a point of swinging by The Bay View Inn to help us Bay Viewers celebrate the summer in style.

The big show started at 6pm with the band taking the stage when the sun began to set over Widemouth Bay. There were no tickets. No VVIP backstage areas. This was a family friendly fun night out.

Bay Fest 2018: Talan’s Trust

Talan's Trust LogoThis year, Bay Fest raised funds for Talan’s Trust. Talan’s Trust, charity no. 1176058, raises awareness of childhood cancer, after Bude teenager, Talan Penny, passed away from a rare form of the disease — Rhabdomyosarcoma – a type of soft tissue sarcoma that grows in active muscles of the body – at the tender age of just 19.

Talan’s Trust raises awareness of RMS and other childhood cancers and raises money for research into Rhabdomyosarcoma.

The Bay View Inn was one of Talan’s favourite local restaurants (he loved a good roast!) and we were deeply honoured that his family were happy for us to use our two signature outdoor events – Bay Fest 2018 and Fire Bay, our annual fireworks spectacular on 4th November – to raise money and awareness.

Before giving a speech to the crowd before the band were welcomed on stage, Talan’s Trust members and the owners of The Bay View got together for a quick photo:

Our staff and charity volunteers accepted donations before, during and after the event and we managed to £629 on the night – a mahosive thank you to everyone who dug deep.

If you couldn’t make Bay Fest and would still like to donate something, please give generously in person or online on the Talan’s Trust Just Giving Page.

You can also like and share the valuable work undertaken by Talan’s Trust on their Facebook page.

We will be supporting Talan’s Trust for the rest of 2018 with the next big event coming in November with Fire Bay, our annual fireworks spectacular. Here’s hoping we get as good weather!
